Ask your Questions

Question mark
Marco Bellucci / Foter.com / CC BY

I have been getting a lot of questions recently about everything from how to get more traffic to how do I come up with so many topics to write about.

I want to try something new.  I have no idea if this will be of value to you or if this idea is a total dud.  I was thinking that I would open up this post to questions.  Sort of a test run.  If enough people are looking for some advice, I might just put together a page devoted to answering whatever is on your mind.

Like I said, I don’t know if this is a good idea, but I’m always open to finding new ways to connect with you to help you gain the success, confidence or peace of mind that you are looking for.  Who knows, maybe someone else will ask something that you hadn’t thought of, but helps you out.

The questions can be about any appropriate topic.  You can ask about blogging, relationships, children, career, self-improvement etc…  You get the idea.  Anyway, let’s test this out and see what happens.

If you have a question, please put it below in the comments and I’ll give you an answer.  All the best. :)

Oh yeah, quick note, I won’t be answering questions dealing with religion or politics.

  1. Wendy - regarding commenting on blogs, do you know if there is a general consensus where viewers would prefer not to be required to leave their email address before they can comment for security reasons? Would viewers comment more if the security setting to leave an email address or other information were disabled on the blog?

    • I get up with the kids at 6am. while they get ready for school, I check email, linkedin, facebook, twitter and my blog. By 7:30am the kids are at school and I write a post. I then shower and go into work. In between juggling clients, I check in on the sites mentioned above. I juggle the two until 2:30pm when kids start getting out of school. i then make dinner and help with homework. By 7:30pm I am back to the computer until 9 or 10pm and then I go to sleep. Of course there are days that I am writing for a company or showing homes to a client, but that is what a typical day breaks down to. :)

  2. Excellend idea….i don’t have a question at the moment…but I’m sure I will. I look forward to reading other’s questions and your answers…I’m sure there is something to learn from there too.

    • Thanks for the enthusiasm. As I said, I thought I would test out a new idea. I think it’s kind of bombing though, so I’m not sure that I will continue with this idea. :)

  3. Hi Wendy, I blog on anything that inspires me. I have been told to stick to a specific Genre. Some have suggested that due to my counseling, and entertainment backgrounds, that I concentrate all my efforts in these two areas. I don’t think that would be wise. What would you suggest? Blessings.

    • You should write what you love. There is no way to copy someone else’s ideas successfully. Go with your gut and forget about what others think. As you write what inspires you, you will begin to see the path you are meant to be on.

  4. Hi Wendy,
I think the question about creating a successful blog was one I wanted to ask but didn’t know how to ask it, so thank you, Susan and thank you, Wendy, for answering it. My problem is social media - the like me and I’ll like you, follow me and I’ll follow you. I recently told my husband that I think I am just going stick to my 2 R’s - research and writing (and of course interacting with the people that comment on my blog). That’s what makes me happiest in my blogging world. How do I find balance in growing my blog/readership without having to deal with the politics? Ok. That’s not the politics you were talking about, right? You were talking about Republicans and Democrats, etc. - that stuff, right? If it falls under the realm, I understand you not answering the question. Thank you for having this Q&A.

    • Hi Karina,
I can share what worked for me. I did what made me happy and ignored the rest. I am on many websites with a profile and a link to my blog. I don’t have time to participate in all of the groups and forums. In less something catches my eye, I don’t comment at all.

As far as following people, I stay honest about it. I follow the people who interest me and that’s it. I don’t worry about “favors” of I’m following you so you must follow me and vice versa. I want real readers. Numbers are just numbers. I would never pay for more twitter followers (for example). I care about the people who genuinely want to connect. That’s what I base my success on. Those are the numbers that count.

I hope that might have answered your question to some degree. :)

      • Hi Wendy,
It does help. Thank you. I think in the beginning, I thought it would be a good idea in order to get more exposure. I wasn’t necessarily doing it for the numbers. Lately, though, it has taken the fun out of what I love doing and I knew I had to change something. I was afraid of losing…..I don’t even know what, but while talking to my husband, it came to me that if my enthusiasm shows in what I do, people will come. Thank you for your insight.

        • Your welcome. A blog is an ever evolving thing. Take this latest post, I am throwing the idea out there to see if it is a good idea. Some things i’ve done worked for a while and then I got bored. The beauty of a blog is there are no limits. Make it into what you want. That goes for the way you reach out in other media sites. You will change a thousand times the way you do things. in the end, nothing is incorrect unless it feels that way to you. :)

    • Ah, a question. I don’t know if I can narrow it down to one factor, so I will give you a couple. Dedication, a love for blogging and a constant need to learn more. I would say that sums it up.

    • I’m sure it’s different for each person, but I would guess truth. It’s hard to find your truth in what you are trying to work out. If you can uncover your truth, you are on well on your way.
