Blogger Survey

Article by Wendy McCance

I have been getting a lot of questions about blogging.  There are so many people either thinking about starting a blog, or are new to blogging and want to know what to expect.  I feel lucky in that I have some great followers who are generous with support and advice.  I figured it would be great to show some support to those just jumping into the blogging world with some advice from those of us that have been blogging for a while.  I hope that many of you decide to participate.  For those of you with questions, please put them in the comment section so that I or one of the other readers can answer it for you.

Here are the questions.  I will be answering them as well.  If there is a question you feel uncomfortable answering, don’t, just go on to the next one.

Yes, mainly from writing articles for companies that have contacted me.

5.  What do you like best about blogging?

I love the blogging community.  There are so many wonderful, generous and supportive people who I have gotten to know through my blog.

6.  Are you a writer or looking to become one?

I am a full-time freelance writer.

7.  Do you feel your blog is taking off the way you would like it to?

Yes, I am stunned by the amount of people who have visited my site since I began blogging.  I currently have over 1,400 followers.

8.  What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you because you have a blog?

My blog is featured in the Oakland Press (local newspaper).

9.  Do you have any advice for those just starting out?

Enjoy the process and don’t stress about what you write.  Be authentic and your blog will be appreciated.

Thanks for participating. :)

I do know that each day I improve it in some way, so it will be more presentable and readable. I’m not convinced that I really know how to drive traffic my way yet. 8) Nothing too exciting yet. 9) Too early.

    6. Are you a writer or looking to become one?
    I’m looking to become one.

I won some contests. I met good friends from all over the world.
    9. Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Write with your readers in your mind. Don’t imitate anyone. Be original!

  4. 1. How long have you been blogging?

    2 years

    2. How often do you write a post?

That depends on the month, hahaha. Now that I’m in the middle of my second to last semester of college, it’s about once a week at most. While I’m home on vacation, usually about 3 times a week. When I was abroad, on average 2-3 times a week.

    3. Do you advertise your blog anywhere?

As of a year ago, I’ve been using Facebook, Tumblr, and Flickr.

    4. Have you ever gotten any money off of your blog? How?

    No.

    5. What do you like best about blogging?

It gives me the chance to review my life and learn how I can improve. I love being able to go back a year and see how I wrote then compared to now, and to be able to critique my own photographs. Most importantly, I can see what went wrong with my baking (it’s a baking blog), and improve for the next time. And finally, I can tangibly chart my growth and prove it to people.

    6. Are you a writer or looking to become one?

I’ve done a little blogging for other groups and would love to be able to do it professionally, or to adopt other writing jobs.

    7. Do you feel your blog is taking off the way you would like it to?

As of a year ago, when I finally learned to how to reach out, my blog has grown tremendously, exceeding my own expectations. I can only hope that it will continue to grow as a way to connect me to people….and maybe it’ll get me a job someday, hahaha.

    8. What is the most exciting thing that has happened to you because you had a blog?

Every single moment that people mention my blog, even if I don’t know them too well and they tell me they’ve been following my posts. No matter how often that happens, it’s just as rewarding every time.

    9. Do you have any advice for those just starting out?

Be you, just be all you. Your blog is yours. And, more concretely, talk it up! Tell people about your blog and ask them to read it!! That’s the only way it’ll grow.

  5. My turn :-)
    1. I have been blogging about 7 months. 2.) I am still unsure how often to post. I would like to post once or twice a week. 3.) Twitter & Linkedin, I would be interested in learning more about the other sites. Any suggestions? 4.) No money yet, but would be interested if some magically came my way :-) 5.) I love the community. Reading other peoples views and how honest they become over time. It is hard to hide yourself, when you post so often. 6.) I think I have become a writer over the past year. I finished my first book, I am writing for Textbroker and Odesk and currently interviewing for a Wisconsin magazine. It is painstakingly slow, but I know it will payoff. 8.) The most exciting thing that happened is I have gained confidence. My writing has evolved. I feel like I have made some great friends who, are there to support me as much as I support them. You guys are awesome! 9.) Write from your heart. Be patient and most of all have fun!
