Grow Your Brand by Understanding the Statistics on Your Website?

Are you attempting to grow your brand by making it more visible on the web?  Are you trying to increase traffic to your website by writing informative articles or by actively participating on a social media platform? If you have a business and are doing any of the above, you are on the right track.

I am always looking for new and inventive ways to increase my exposure on the web.  My goal is to increase my writing and social media business by sharing insightful bits of information.  I feel that when you can demonstrate what you do by sharing what you know, you increase your credibility and are able to build your business more quickly.  Being able to look up my statistics is an intricate part in understanding what seems to be working best.

If you have a business website, the most important thing for you to know is how to read the statistics on your dashboard.  Many of the clients I work with have paid someone to build a website for their business or have an employee who produces blog posts.  I am always amazed when they rely so heavily on what others can do for their website that they don’t personally know how to navigate the dashboard.

The reason business owners need to understand how to see the back-end of their site is so they can see those statistics.  When I work with a client, I want to know how much they know about their own site.  Being able to access the stats without getting help from their web developer is important so that at any time they can check how much traffic their website gets, what posts are popular and where their traffic is coming from.

If a company hires someone to handle their social media platforms or to write blog posts, they need to be able to see if traffic is increasing and paying someone to handle these tasks is paying off.  A good social media manager will be linking a businesses social media sites to their website several times each week.  The ultimate goal of using social media is to increase business. The best way to increase business is to get someone interested in learning more about the company.  If a potential customer goes to your company website, odds are better that you will gain a new customer.

If you are relying on articles to get traffic to your site, you will want to see if the writer is doing a good job of using SEO.  If there are appropriate keywords in the article and tags and categories are used efficiently, you will get a higher search ranking and ultimately more traffic.

You can get some great in-depth knowledge of what your customers want to know just by seeing which posts are most popular.  Was an article written that dramatically increased traffic once it was posted?  Maybe this is a topic that your customers find important.  Being able to see the statistics can help you to understand your customers needs.

Statistics can tell you where your readers are coming from.  What site were they on before coming to your website?  Are you getting the most out of your social media platforms?  Was a customer on your Twitter or Facebook account before hitting on a link to your website?

A good content writer or social media manager will be able to teach you how to look at your dashboard and get the information yourself.  The reason this is more important than just relying on weekly or monthly stats given to you by your social media manager is so you have control.  It’s important that at any time you can see how well your website is performing.

Ultimately, it is your business and up to you to understand what is and isn’t working.  Yes, your social media manager will guide you, but relying 100% on someone else to run a portion of your business can do more damage than good if they aren’t as qualified as they should be.

Do you know how to read your statistics?  Do you depend on someone else to figure out how well your site is doing?
