There is nothing like having kids to inspire a person to take action when they feel like they can’t do something. The kids are watching and taking notes and will be remembering. For what you do is setting the groundwork for their own future.

Having health issues has been challenging, but having children who watch how I handle those health issues has been challenging on a whole other level.

I have two children with a form of ADD and one child with hypothyroidism. They have had their own obstacles to get over, but I can assure you, they looked at how I handled my own issues as a guide when faced with their own tough times.

Since the kids were born, I was diagnosed with Graves Disease, then a few years later, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and still several years later Multiple Myeloma. Needless to say, my health has been anything but stellar and yet, I have a life to lead, a paycheck to make and kids to raise.

When I could no longer work in an office, I reinvented myself and became a freelance writer and social media manager and worked from home. I didn’t have a background in the writing or social media field and I didn’t have a college degree, but it is what I chose to do and I make a very good living from it.

It dawned on me that if I couldn’t work outside of the house and if I would have to start from scratch figuring out what to do with my life, I should do something I loved. Go after what you are passionate about and the money will follow. It’s true. I lived it. I was starting from nothing, I had hit rock bottom so no matter what I chose to do for a living, I would be working my way up from nothing.

My kids saw me build a business out of thin air. They witnessed what looked like a hopeless situation get turned into something remarkable. They understood that although you can’t predict what comes next, you have the power to create what makes you happy and fulfilled. Even the impossible can become possible if you don’t give up. Believing in yourself will take you wherever you want to go.

My kids saw it all. The worst moments and the best. The struggles and the determination to make something better for myself. It was the hardest of times but one of the best life lessons I could have ever shared with the kids.

The kids are older now and I can see them push through their own obstacles. I see their determination and the immense faith they have in their own abilities. The kids have bright futures.

Now that the kids are older, I have made new plans for myself. Now that I am making a solid living as a writer and social media manager, I am going to spend some time focusing on writing for publications. Fingers crossed by the time the kids are out on their own I will be devoting my time to writing a book.
