The Best of Fall in Michigan

Michigan leaf

Article by Wendy McCance

Aw, Michigan.  The only place I know of where people show you where they live by pointing it out on their hand.  There is just something special about living in a state that looks like a mitten.

Autumn is such a beautiful time of year here in Michigan.  The air is crisp, the leaves are turning brilliant orange, gold and bright red colors.  It’s a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors.

On any given weekend, there are so many incredible things to do with the family, and in the fall, the choices seem to be magnified.

If you are looking for a fun way to enjoy this official first day of fall in Michigan, the below list might just give you a head start in planning your itinerary.

Cider Mills

Enjoy the outdoors with this link to all of the cider mills located in most of lower Michigan.  The site below also has a list of pumpkin patches, haunted houses, craft shows and other fun things to do.

Fairs and Festivals

Pure Michigan has a great site for looking up what is happening on any given day.  Autumn is a perfect time of year to look into a fair or festival.  The Rennaisance Fair is one particularly well-known way to spend a day as fall gets under way.  Check out the best of fairs and festivals at the link below.

Farmers Market

There is nothing like heading to the local farmer’s market on an early Sunday morning.  I love picking out gorgeous vegetables, taking the haul back home and whipping up a terrific Sunday dinner.  The Michigan Farmers Market Association has a good website with a treasure trove of farmers markets that can be visited.

  1. It sounds beautiful, Wendy. I love this time of year too and here in Colorado we’re gearing up for the change of the Aspens (a bright gold) across the mountain sides.

We see streams of people coming up to our hills this time of year to see them. We call them, “leaf lookers” and we’re included.
