A Sunday to Unwind

I woke up this morning to birds singing outside my window. The sun was casting a golden glow of light that crept through my bedroom and a small breeze was blowing through the room. Ah, summer! There is nothing like being woken up in such a peaceful fashion. I tucked the blankets around me a little tighter and went back to sleep for a little while longer.

The second time I woke up I began pondering what to do with my day. The best days are those that allow you to be as lazy as you please. When there is nothing pertinent on the schedule, it’s gorgeous outside and the world is just waiting for you to make a decision as to what you would like to do.

It is Sunday. The temperature will get up into the mid 80’s and it is bright and sunny out. The wind is blowing gently and the humidity is low. It truly is the perfect summer day!

I am debating between the farmers market (we are out of fresh fruit and I’d like to pick up some fresh, gorgeous peaches), swimming at the pool, taking a long bike ride or maybe doing some reading from the stack of summer books I have bought. I love just being able to take my time to make a decision. How will my day play out? That in itself is one of the best parts about a lovely summer morning. There is no rush. For the moment, I’ll head outside to sit on the porch with a cup of tea and enjoy the stillness and beauty that surrounds me.

I am doing my best to shut out the responsibilities that are always looming. I could clean up the house, go grocery shopping, plan out and cook some meals for the week, balance the checkbook etc… But, just contemplating using my day to get chores done is like throwing cold water on myself while having a beautiful dream.

The windows are wide open, the air smells of freshly cut grass. There is a faint whiff of flowers. That sweet summer fragrance that dances around in the breeze. I hear those wonderful birds delighting in the fresh air that surrounds them. Nope, no responsibilities today! Today is for relaxing and letting the day evolve without a schedule. Today I will live like a kid again.

  1. Thanks for the coaching on how to spend a Sunday. It looks like a great way to recharge for all of those to do’s that will be there on Monday. Pausing to be more kid-like at times would help us all.
