Note: I am not an expert on holistic products.  Before trying any essential oils or any other products you are uncertain of, ask your doctor if it is okay to use.  Some of these products might not be safe for a person who is pregnant, has diabetes or might mix poorly with the medications you take (or any number of other personal situations you might have).  I just don’t know because I don’t have the proper background.

The information below is based on what I have read.  The links are available below so you can read the information too.

There is a store that opened up recently in our neighborhood.  It is a combination nutritional supplement store/mini organic market.  Much different than Whole Foods, the store is heavy on essential oils, natural remedies and organic cleaning products and light on groceries.  There are probably four full aisles and two mini aisles in all, but there is so much to take in, I could spend an hour there easily.

I was so excited to check out the store and I went with one of my daughters who is into the whole healthy eating and use of holistic items to cure what ails you thing too.

So, I’m sure you are wondering what we were interested in buying.  I have been researching essential oils and wanted to find a place where I could get pure oils that haven’t been diluted.  I was thrilled to find a huge selection of exactly the type of oils I was looking for.  The prices ranged from $3.99 to $35.00 depending on what type of oil you got and what size it was.

I got 3 oils and my daughter got 1.

I bought:

Lavendar oil (I’ve been having trouble sleeping)
Good for: Muscle aches, relaxation, depression, insomnia, antifungal (nails) skin disorders etc…

Orange oil (got it because supposedly it fights cancer growth)
Good for: Improves digestion, calluses on feet, acne, prevents cellular mutations, stimulates lymphatic system etc…

Oregano oil (supposedly helps fight cancer)
Good for: Nail fungus, sinus infections, inhibiting cancer growth, protect against norovirus etc…

My daughter wanted to try Rose Hip Oil which is good for skin and hair.

If you are going to put essential oils on your skin, you have to make sure you use just one drop mixed with a teaspoon of coconut, grapeseed, almond or jojoba oil.  Because essential oils are pure concentrate, they can be dangerous to rub directly on the skin without diluting it properly first.

So, besides getting the essential oils, I got almond oil to mix the oils with and my daughter got coconut oil.  Both are good for moisturizing skin, making hair shiny and healthy and a host of other benefits you can view at the links below.

Besides getting all of the oils, I bought this foot cream called Borage Therapy. My heels of my feet get really dried out in the winter and there doesn’t seem to be any lotion that helps sufficiently.  I have my fingers crossed that this lotion will help.  It contains Borage Oil which is an omega-6 fatty acid (known to heal dry skin).  I’ve heard this treatment mentioned here and there and on the back label, it says that they guarantee you will see results or your money back.  It was enough to convince me to give it a try.  Hopefully, I’ll be reporting back with super soft feet. 🙂

Finally, I am a big fan of healthy drinks.  Some days I feel sluggish, bloated and my stomach just generally feels uncomfortable.  On those days, I like to eat less and drink more.  In the summer I’ll take a trip to Beyond Juice and drink my day away.  During the winter months (for whatever reason) I tend to rely on what I can find at the grocery store.

I was thrilled to find a juice I had never heard of.  I am drinking it as I type this post and I have to say it’s remarkably good.  Like REALLY good!!

The juice is called Lakewood Basics.  I’ve never heard of it.  The type I got is called Restore and it has Mango, Orange, Carrot, Ginger and Turmeric in it.  You can’t taste anything except the mango and orange which surprised me.  I was worried I’d taste the spices and be turned off by it.

This juice is 100% juice with no sugar added.  It’s a cold pressed organic drink so it is not from concentrate and there are no preservatives.  It is completely BPA/BPS free because it is in a glass bottle and because it is organic, there are no GMO’s.  I am now hooked!!!

That was my trip (with my daughter) to the health food store.  It was a blast.  I know it will quickly become one of my favorite places to shop (besides the bookstore).  I actually said to my daughter that if I took a job solely because I wanted to work there without worry of how much it paid, I would divide my time between working in a bookstore, the health food store and a recording studio and I would be in heaven. 🙂

Please Remember: I am not an expert on holistic products. Before trying any essential oils or any other products you are uncertain of, ask your doctor if it is okay to use.  Some of these products might not be safe for a person who is pregnant, has diabetes or might mix poorly with the medications you take (or any number of other situations).  I just don’t know because I don’t have the proper background.

  1. I have been studying and using essential oils for about three years. I love them! I use them for so many things, including cleaning, making soap, deodorant and toothpaste. PS: I love my local health food store and will look for that juice!

  2. Hey Wendy…Read your recent post with interest as I’ve just recently discovered other benefits of Essential Oils. My best friend got me started at Christmas with a cute cannister holding 3-5ml oils (Wild Orange, On Guard, and Peppermint). I’ve since bought a set of 14 oils, 2 diffusers, and a book on Essential Oils and added to my collection with a bottle of lemongrass (my new favorite), another bottle of undiluted Sweet Orange, Ginger, and Rosemary Oil. I’ve found that mixing Orange and Lemongrass in diffuser not only helps my house to smell good, but has helped me with insomnia and sharpened my mental accuity while studying…Oh, and found all of the above at a certain large online store (of many products) at reasonable prices.
