There is something to be said about going through the worst in life.  Whether it be because of poor decisions, illness, or mere fate, the way you handle yourself years after the worst is revealed will decide the life you continue to live.

I have made poor choices that led to heartbreak, fear and loneliness.  I have been thrust into positions that made me a victim of chance.  I have reached out with an open heart and had my heart taken advantage of.   It’s not unusual, it’s human.  Everyone has had moments that were agonizingly painful emotionally, physically or both.

The worst times are the ones that you hadn’t seen coming.  You were put into a place you never thought you would be and had to struggle to break free.  What happens years later is very telling of the type of person you are and what your soul reveals about you.

People who can take the bitterness of a bad moment in time and learn from it, blossom into people who end up having incredible experiences years later.  They have learned and moved on. Those who put their brain on repeat and hold on tightly to those moments where they feel they have been wronged end up suffering far worse over the years.

Maybe you feel that someone treated you poorly.  You can’t get past all of the time and effort you put into the relationship.  Years later, if you can get through the bitterness and understand what drew you to the person in the first place, why you hung on for so long and why you let someone take advantage of you, you will emerge with healthier relationships and a less toxic group of people surrounding you.

Let’s say that you can’t seem to get past the feeling of betrayal.  What will that do for you years from now?  Your bitterness will push others away.  Your reactions to situations will seem extreme for the circumstances.  Your lack of trust will isolate you.  You will end up lonely and miserable with a big chip on your shoulder.

Every bad moment is a moment that we can learn from.  Learning from those bad times propels us to a better place.  Eventually you will notice that as you age and get through the bad experiences, you will see less drama surrounding you.  There will be more happy moments to celebrate.

Don’t let yourself become the bitter lonely person who can’t move on.  Become the person who seeks knowledge and understanding and knows there are better times for them in the future.

Be aware, your soul will be exposed when times are tough.  You will find out what you are truly made of.  Others will notice as well.  Allow yourself to heal your wounds instead of making the wounds worse.  Lose the bitterness.  You only get one life so you may as well find a way to get the most joy out of it.  Bitterness if for those who are stuck.  Those who live in the past and have no idea how to move forward.  Bitterness is the kiss of death to your future happiness.

  1. I am one of those very rare people who at 51 has not gone through the worst of life but I still have a lot of years ahead of me and I doubt I will end my life saying the same thing. The we have people like my sister who has been through some horrible things in her life and still manages to pick herself up and carry on
