Blogger in the Spotlight- Living with…

Please don't blow!

Article by Jennifer

Well, I can’t believe it, but this is the last interview for Blogger in the Spotlight.  I hope you have enjoyed these interviews as much as I have enjoyed them.  There have been so many fascinating stories from a huge variety of individuals.  I believe this last interview will really warm your heart.  The woman who was interviewed just goes by her first name, Jennifer.  Her blog is courageous and extremely vulnerable as she speaks openly about her affliction with Schizoaffective Disorder.

Please let me introduce Jennifer.

My name is Jennifer. I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder in 2002, and have been living with this illness since then. I am also a writer. I write children’s stories, short stories, news & political articles, articles on topics of personal interest (Buddhism, energy, environmental issues, happiness), and I am also writing my memoir. I hope to encourage other people with my writing, and spread awareness of current issues facing society.

The name of my blog is “Living With Schizoaffective Disorder.” I wanted to give my blog a name that reflects what I write about and the illness I deal with daily in my life.  I chose a theme that I liked from those available from Word Press. The picture I currently have on my blog is my puppy Savannah.

What made you decide to begin a blog?

I decided to start a blog in August, 2011 when my husband suggested that it would be a healthy way to express and chronicle how I deal with my illness on a daily basis. I also wanted to be able to reach out to other people suffering from similar illnesses, and to learn from them as well. Also, because of the nature of my illness, it helps me to get my thoughts out of my head and onto “paper.”

How long have you been blogging? Is this your first blog?

I started my blog in August, 2011. This is my first and only blog.

How often do you write a new post or add a new photograph to your blog?

When I started my blog, I wrote a blog post every day, Monday through Friday. Now, I try to post to my blog 2 to 3 times a week. I have very few photographs on my blog for privacy reasons.

What has been your best experience since beginning your blog?

My best experience since beginning my blog is the clarity it has provided me, and the chance to communicate with and encourage other people suffering from similar illnesses.

What has been most surprising to you about having a blog?

I love having my own blog because I am in complete control of what is posted on it.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Find a topic that you are interested in, passionate about, and have knowledge of. Then be as creative as you want!

I hoped you enjoyed this final interview.  You can find Jennifer’s blog at the link below.  I hope you take a moment and check it out.  her blog is really wonderful.

  1. I will miss your blogger in the spotlight posts. They have been something I looked forward to.

Jennifer sounds like an amazing person. I applaud her courage and determination to manage her disability. That is not an easy task.
