Friday’s Bloggers in the Spotlight

As promised, here is the first of many Friday’s Bloggers in the Spotlight.  I hope you enjoy learning about this first interview with a wonderful woman, Traci Ford.  Remember, if you are a follower of this blog and interested in being interviewed, please shoot me an email at [email protected] so that I can set it up.

Friday Spotlight Interview

Getting to know Traci Ford’s blog:

The name of my blog is ADauphin’s Blog.  I chose the name because Aurora Dauphin, or the name she writes under, George Sand is one of my favorite authors.  The fact that writers like her and Marian Evans (George Eliot) had to be published under male names at first made me angry, but then as my reading became more eclectic I started reading science fiction.   I found that many of my favorite authors, who I thought were men, were actually women writing under male names (i.e., Alice Morton, bka Andre Norton). I began thinking of it as more of a positive.  The point was to get their fiction/prose read…period, by any means necessary.

I chose the style of my blog which is a picture of a tree-lined road with a lone figure walking, because that sums up my life.  I am a sometimes lone figure taking a journey down a road surrounded by Nature and at home with it.

What made you decide to begin a blog?

I have kept a journal since I was 7 years old.  It keeps me sane.  You know, better out than in, right?  I started reading blogs a couple of years ago and realized that’s really what they are;  journal entries made public that give people a chance to share their thoughts, their expertise, their rants about any given subject.  So I joined the blogesphere last year and haven’t looked back since.

How long have you been blogging?  Is this your first blog?

I’ve only been blogging for a little over a year.  It is my first.

How often do you write a new post or add a new photograph to your blog?

I guess I publish a new post on the average of 4-5 times a month.  I don’t normally add photos or images to my blogs.

What has been your best experience since beginning your blog?

My best experience, (and experience that just keeps happening, thank goodness!), is having people comment on, or follow my blog.  I love starting or being a part of conversations, it doesn’t matter if I’m in agreement with others or not.  In the space where a conversation takes place, miracles can happen and I’m all about miracles and magic (Hence, it’s why I make films).   Also, the more people I can reach, makes the experience that much more exciting.  I recently had two blogs published in an e-magazine http://woman2womanmagazine.com (here’s a direct link to the second, “After the End of the Affair” http://woman2womanmagazine.com/2012/05/15/after-the-end-of-the-affair/. It’s an awesome experience to be shared with a wider, more diverse audience.

What has been most surprising to you about having a blog?

I wasn’t sure when I submitted the second blog, that woman2womanmagazine.com would accept it, because the main theme of the e-magazine has a Christian “bent” and in that blog I talk about some of my experience coming out as a gay woman.  To my pleasant astonishment, it was accepted.  I am usually pleasantly surprised by how accepting people are about what I have to say in any given blog.  A writer’s life is a solitary one and it’s always a surprise when we share our thoughts, fictional or not, that there are people who not only accept it, but identify with it.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking of starting their own blog?

Stop thinking about it and just do it.

Is there anything else you would like to mention?

More information about Traci Ford.

My name is Traci Ford.  I am a lesbian, humanist, feminist, writer and filmmaker. (Not necessarily always in that order.)  I am a firm believer in being nonjudgmental (live and let live).  I treat others the way in which I want to be treated.  However, if I see injustice rearing its ugly head; for example this anti-female stance that the U.S. government and the Catholic Church have taken is hard for me to stomach. I use my writing talent and my filmmaking vision to bring attention to it, in order to increase the grassroots activism currently underway.  Keep an eye out for YOU’RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME, a docu-drama I am currently writing.  I have a 27-year-old son, a cat and a ball python and live in single blessedness.

  1. I was confused at first because when Traci described her blog design, she was describing YOUR blog design, Wendy. Then when I went to her blog, I was even more confused since it IS your blog design. That not withstanding, she writes an interesting and very forthcoming blog. You know how much I like gutsy, powerful women!

  2. I very much enjoyed this interview. It is always a treat when you see two amazing women come together for a collaboration like this. Tracie sounds amazing. I will now be checking out her blog for sure. Thanks for doing this. It is such a generous thing to do, but then again that is who you are. :)

  3. “it is my hope, my prayer, for this child to grow into a strong warrior in this world. i hope that it learns to stand for what it believes in, and stays strong in the face of adversity. i hope it is close with its father, and walks in its mother’s image.” Borrowed from another individual on this site who will remain nameless. This is my prayer too. Another Warrior for Christ.
