Good Fortune? Coincidence? You Decide!

So now that I am back in action feeling terrific about my current cancer status, I’m excited to dive right back into writing on the blog.  If you have read my blog for some time, you know that I love to talk about subjects like, serendipity (good fortune), karma and The Secret. I enjoy exploring the idea that positive thinking can bring about life changing results even in the bleakest of times.  I have experienced so many wonderful life-changing moments when I had difficulty imagining a bad situation working itself out.  It was always a combination of determination, fighting through the fear, creative thinking and acting on even the smallest shred of possibility that pulled me out and turned my life around.

Anyway, I have a story to share with you that demonstrates what I am trying to explain.  Our family had a recent string of bad luck.  Have you ever heard of things happening in three’s?  Well, it always seems that when one thing goes wrong, we hold our breath waiting for the other two things to happen before we know we are out of the woods and can pull ourselves out of whatever slump we found ourselves in.

So recently, we took our car in to be fixed because it was about ready to give up and die along side the road if we didn’t get it looked at quickly, our dryer broke down and the upstairs toilet began dripping water right through our kitchen ceiling.  This was all in the span of a week.  It wasn’t a fun week.

I have to admit, I have lived with so much fear recently.  Worrying about the future of my health after being diagnosed with cancer had simply shut me down.  I wasn’t taking on new clients until I felt I could do so without the worry of letting them down.  I was tremendously afraid that I would begin working with a new client and then have to back out a few weeks later because I would need cancer treatment.  I just needed to know I had time to really work hard for my clients and be dependable.

Well with all that was going wrong at home, finances being tight and being fed-up with allowing fear to rule my world, I gave myself a time-frame.  I decided that if my latest appointment with the oncologist went well that I would get back into the swing of things and get my butt back to working full-time.  I just needed to know that I was going to be okay for a while.

The appointment with the oncologist went better than expected.  Because my blood tests have been fairly consistent, the oncologist decided to move my appointments back to 3 month intervals instead of monthly blood tests.  I can’t believe I get 3 full months before I have to visit my oncologist again.

So on the way home, I told my husband that now I could dive back into my career without concern about tomorrow or the next day.  I had just needed to know I had time to really do some fantastic work for my clients.

As soon as I got home, I grabbed my computer with the intention of billing my current clients for the month and then working on prospecting for new business.  I was working away and went to my email to write to one of my clients when I saw what would be one of those woo hoo moments.

I received an email approximately one hour after getting home from the doctor from a person I had reached out to almost 8 months ago.  It had been someone I had written to asking if their company was looking for a writer. After all of these months, and on the day I decided I was all in again, I got this amazing email asking me if I was still interested in working for that company.

This company I was hoping to write for is what I would consider a dream opportunity.  I just couldn’t believe that for two weeks, I had been waiting to hear from my doctor, hoping to get a thumb’s up so I could pursue my career again the way I had before my diagnosis.  I couldn’t believe that after 3 unlucky issues at home, it was becoming more apparent that I needed to get over the fear and get back to work for our financial safety if nothing else.  I definitely couldn’t believe that an hour after my appointment, an email arrives asking me about a possible job and it’s a dream job on top of everything else!  What are the odds?

Maybe the Secret does work (positive thinking and your wishes materialize). Maybe it was good fortune at work.  Maybe it’s just good karma.  Whatever the case, it was incredible.  It truly made my day completely perfect.

  1. I’m like you Wendy. I don’t think this was a coincidence. It’s like they talk about in the book, “The Alchemist”, when you set your intention, the universe rallies to make it happen. I believe this is what is happening for you and it’s not done yet. :-)
