I have always been fascinated with the life behind the author.  Every now and then, I will look up an author and read about the road they took to becoming a writer.  My favorite part of these tales is reading what goes on inside their head.  What intrigues them enough to write down their thoughts?  What experiences did they have that gave them an idea for a book?  What is it that goes on inside their mind that drives them to spend hour upon hour and days at a time tucked away from the public as they hammer out a new novel.

Over time, I have found some stories that I loved reading about.  Just a page or two on what it’s like to walk in the shoes of some of the most famous and legendary authors of our time.  There is something so inspiring about reading a description of what drives an author to write and realize how well it resonates with the way I feel.

Below are a few inspiring stories by some fantastic authors.  These are great descriptions of why these authors felt the need to write.  The links below are just quick one page pieces that I am sure you will enjoy.

George Orwell “Putting aside the need to earn a living, I think there are four great motives for writing.”  The descriptions of the motives are thought provoking.
