Redecorating the Kitchen

My husband and I have been working on redecorating our kitchen.  While keeping the cabinets, counter tops and floor the same, everything else is being redone.  It might sound as simple as putting some paint on the wall and getting a new window treatment, but we have decided to really go all out and redo the space.

We began by picking a backsplash.  We chose a beautiful layered natural stone to give texture to the room and add a delicate hint of color.  The color in the stone has a cement colored base with splashes of rust, mustard and blue colors running through it.  It matched up well with our black granite countertop that has flecks of color in the same hues as the backsplash.  We have maple cabinets and decided that a new paint color in Behr’s Olympic Bronze would look good as a tie between the countertop, backsplash and cabinets.

Once the room was painted, my husband began working on the lighting we are putting under the cabinets.  After the lighting is in (dimmers included!), the backsplash will be installed.

In the meantime, I got the opportunity to work on the fun stuff.  I picked out a new kitchen table, sideboard, chandelier, window treatments and dining rug.  I still need to pick out cabinet hardware, a pendant light for over the sink, a flush mount light for the kitchen work area, 2 wall scounces, a mirror and so on.  So far my favorite purchase is the chandelier.  It is a rubbed bronze color with five arms and mini lamp shades and it’s beautiful.  It’s been a long time since we have undertaken such a major project and the results so far have been dramatic.

I have been spending a lot of time looking up images of the kind of kitchen that appeals to me. Pinterest and Houzz have been the sites I have frequented the most.  The other night while hanging out on Pinterest, I came along a couple of blogs that I absolutely fell in love with.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I love a movie more when the home in the movie is a home I wish I lived in.  The way some of these homes are decorated really stands out in my mind whenever I think of the movie.  I want to go back and watch the movie simply to see the beautiful home again.

Well, the blogs I found have numerous pictures of famous movie homes as well as some popular tv homes (Modern Family anyone?).  If you love the home from Something’s Gotta Give, Father of the Bride or Sleepless in Seattle, you can view these homes on the blogs I found.  Talk about inspiration!!  I got a chance to look at those kitchens I loved and dissect what it was in these kitchens that stood out to create such a good memory in my head.
